Lotus Formula 1 will take on the iconic name Team Lotus next year after team principal Tony Fernandes bought the naming and heritage rights.??

Team Lotus is a name that conjures up great memories from F1 – as the team was one of the most successful in the sports history.??

However, the team crashed out of F1 in 1994 with financial problems but Lotus re-entered F1 this year under Malaysian ownership. ??

Fernandes acquired the Team Lotus naming rights from businessman David Hunt – brother of 1976 F1 world champion James Hunt.??

‘We want to own our own future and not license it from someone else. The future of Lotus Racing and Team Lotus is very secure and it is now in our hands,’ said Fernandes.
