After securing the final grid spot for next year’s 2010 F1 season, Lotus has announced it is confident its new car will be ready by mid-February.
The motor company’s presence next year will mark the first time it has participated in F1 since 1994.
Despite not having competed for over a decade, Lotus are still the fourth most successful constructor of all time, and the Malaysian-funded team announced a scale model has been cleared to undergo windtunnel testing in the near future.
Technical director Mike Gascoyne noted that they have been working with Fondtech to develop the aerodynamics, as well as with gearbox specialists Xtrac.
According to media reports, the director said Lotus’ priority is for two cars on the grid at the start of the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix in March next year.
‘There is no escaping the challenges we face to get the car ready for the first race of next season,’ he said. ‘But I am confident that we are up to the task.’
