The LTA has revealed a £30m drop in revenue for 2020, as the global pandemic and ensuing lockdown hit.

This resulted in an operating loss of £5.2m, though the National Federation managed to reduce this to £1.8m overall after gain in investments were factored in.

All of the organisation’s major events were wiped out through 2020, and it was forced to invest heavily – almost £5m –  in supporting coaches, venues and charities to survive the pandemic.

It did, however, manage to reduce losses by saving £1.2m through the furlough scheme. It also received its annual £36m from the AELTC – a figure made possible by Wimbledon’s much-discussed pandemic insurance, and which made up 75% of the LTA’s entire revenue for the year.

Scott Lloyd, LTA Chief Executive said: “Last year was a challenging one for everyone, but throughout the year we remained focused on reducing costs whilst continuing to support the tennis community.

“We made progress against our strategy of opening up tennis.  This year we have the uncertainty created by a reduced capacity at The Championships and our own events, as well as the extra costs that COVID is imposing on our events. However, we will be continuing our efforts to make tennis a sport for everyone and transform the image of the sport in this country.”
