Ahead of a crucial final weekend of the Barclays Premier League, which will decide the fate of the final Champions League place, Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale and Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain face off as ‘ringers’ at a Lucozade Powerleague centre in East London.
Bale and The Ox, who were recently announced as the latest Lucozade Sport ambassadors, star in a new video to support the ‘Lucozade Sport hydrates and fuels you better than water’ campaign.
The video features Alex and Gareth turning-up to a 5-a-side match before surprising the players already on the pitch by joining in as ‘ringers’ on opposing sides.

Bale, who was crowned both PFA Young Player of the Year and the PFA Players’ Player of the Year earlier this month, said: ‘I am very happy to be working with Lucozade Sport and I’m looking forward to some exciting projects we have in the pipeline. The video was really good fun to shoot, I think there’s a goal of the season contender in there somewhere.’
‘I’ve always been extremely competitive and there is no doubt that good nutrition and Lucozade Sport give me exactly what I need to fuel my performance.’
Arsenal and England player, Oxlade-Chamberlain added: ‘Gareth and I had a great laugh shooting the video. Our competitive sides came out and we couldn’t help trying to take each other on.’
‘I’m thrilled to join Lucozade Sport as an ambassador. As an Arsenal player, I have been a longstanding advocate of Lucozade Sport. It’s a key part of my hydration and nutrition routine.’
The two internationals are working with the makers of Lucozade Sport as part of a strategy to develop brand equity and engagement, in order to educate experts, media and consumers on the science behind the UK’s leading sports drink brand.
The Lucozade Sport vs. Water campaign, which began in January 2013, highlights the claim that Lucozade Sport is scientifically proven to hydrate and fuel better than water alone during prolonged endurance exercise.
The Ox helped out at Mile 23 of the 2013 Virgin London Marathon, after Lucozade Sport took over a section of the race to treat runners to a ‘sensory feast’ in the final stages of the course. Check out the highlights here.
Bale and Oxlade-Chamberlain also teamed up recently as fellow ambassadors of the new BT Sport channel.
