This year’s Virgin Money London Marathon saw Lucozade Sport return to the streets of the capital to take over Mile 23 of the 26.2 mile course, with the help of celebrity ambassadors.
The Lucozade Sport motivation zone hosted runner’s families in an exclusive viewing area, with ambassadors Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chris Robshaw and Leigh Halfpenny making an appearance to surprise them, as well as encourage the field as they hit ‘the wall’.
Also included in the Lucozade Sport mile was a transformation of Blackfriars tunnel, covering the 400m stretch with motivational messages and music.
England rugby captain Chris Robshaw said of the event: ‘I’ve never run a marathon before but watching all those runners really inspired me.’
‘It felt really great to be able to give them a lift at a really challenging part of the course and push them onto the finish line.’
As Official Sports Nutrition Partner of the Virgin Money London Marathon, over 60,000 bottles of Lucozade Sport were on hand for runners on Sunday.
Earlier this year Lucozade Sport, who recently announced that they were retaining the services of Speed Communications to manage the PR strategy in football and running, unveiled its latest advertising campaign, “Fuel to Rule”, with the help of Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard.
