Former talkSPORT and TWG executive Kelvin MacKenzie (pictured above) is set to re-enter the radio industry after confirming details of two new speech stations in London on AM and DAB.

In the New Year, the founder of talkSPORT Radio will launch CitiSport and CitiTalk for the London market, having secured AM and DAB frequencies.

The stations will also be available through digital channels and will also feature on smart speaker technology such as Amazon Echo.

Backers for the venture include UK billionaire Stephen Lansdown of Hargreaves Lansdown, who owns both Bristol City FC and Bristol Rugby Club; investor Nigel Wray, who owns European Rugby champions, Saracens Rugby Club; and Charlton FC director Richard Murray.

MacKenzie said: “London is a global capital and deserves to have its own sports radio station centred on the locale they know. There is only so much of traffic jams from Bangor that our smart and time poor listeners can take.”

CitiSport plans to offer ‘a more modern, humorous and fresh take on sports radio while celebrating sport in London,’ according to the launch.

Kelvin MacKenzie sold talkSPORT a decade ago for £100m to the Wireless Group, and it was recently sold on to News Corp for £225m.
