Real Madrid has claimed a new world record for annual revenue generation in football, after the La Liga club revealed its latest financial figures for the year ending 30th June, 2011.

Turnover, before the transfer of players, increased from £384m in 2009-10 to £416.9m in 2010-11.

A club statement said: ‘Real Madrid closes 2010-11 fiscal year with £384m turnover, representing an 8.6% increase over last year. It is the largest revenue obtained by any sports institution in the world’.

‘The club has managed to obtain a balanced structure of income sources, with a contribution that equals around a third of the total of each of the three great areas (stadium, television, marketing)’.

‘This diversification of recurring income sources confers social stability to the club, cushioning the impact of possible income oscillations motivated by differences in performance in sports and the evolution of financial activity’.

Real’s great Spanish rival FC Barcelona revealed a pre-tax loss of £8.07m for the year ending June 2011, while Manchester United also produced record financial results for the year ending June 2011.

The Premiership Champions announced annual operating profits of £110.9m, while revenue increased to £334.1m, up £45 million on the previous year.

Headline pre-tax profit came in at £29.7m, compared with a loss of £15m last year.
