Newcastle United has secured a new agreement with pizza delivery chain Papa John’s as its official pizza partner for the remainder of the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season.
As part of the agreement, which was brokered by marketing agency SportQuake, Papa John’s will offer Magpies fans a special ‘score twice half price’ discount whereby if the team scores two goals, they will receive a 50% discount on their pizza orders.
Dale Aitchison, the head of partnerships at the club, said of the deal: ‘This is a really exciting partnership and one that I’m sure the supporters will enjoy. The fans play a big part in our performances at home and on the road and it’s great that Papa John’s have shown their appreciation for the support they give our players.’
Papa John’s marketing director Andrew Gallagher, added: ‘Newcastle United is one of the giants of English football and once we finally got the chance to put pen to paper we knew the best way to kick off our relationship – give the supporters fantastic pizzas and deals.’
The US brand also serves as the official pizza partner of the Football League.
The positive news comes at a welcome time for the club, who have experienced a number of more negative moments in the past week.
The last seven days has seen the club’s reserve team manager quit after allegedly hitting one of his players, under-fire director of football Joe Kinnear resigned less than eight months into the role that saw him complete no permanent deals across two transfer windows, star midfielder Yohan Cabaye leave for PSG, while the club was also charged by the FA for failing to control their players during a game with Norwich last month.
