Manchester City have been fined by FIFA but have avoided a transfer ban after a breach of regulations over the transfer of youth players.

The winners of the past two Premier League titles accepted a fine of 370,000 Swiss Francs from world football’s governing body as a result.

A transfer embargo like the one handed down to Chelsea for the same rule breach was a possible scenario. Manchester City say the club accepts responsibility, but that the breaches were a result of a misinterpretation of the regulations.

In a statement, the club added, “all of the breaches occurred before December 2016 when guidance on the interpretation of the provisions was issued, since which date Manchester City has been fully compliant.”

This week, the club has also signed an extended deal which sees South Korean tyre manufacturer Nexen continue as shirt sleeve sponsor for a further year. The brand has been associated with the club since 2015 and became sleeve sponsor in 2017 when the sponsorship category was first introduced.
