Manchester United has appointed a former chartered accountant as its first ever
chief operating officer with Michael Bolingbroke set to take up the post at the
end of May.

The 41-year old Bolingbroke will be responsible for the day-to-day operations
of the club covering finance, IT, HR, legal and property services together with
revenue generated through the use of Old Trafford for matches and as a
conference and event centre.

Football issues, governance and strategy will remain the remit of chief
executive David Gill who together with Bolingbroke will make up the two
non-members of the Glazer family to sit on the club’s board.

Bolingbroke joins United from entertainment group Cirque du Soleil where he
has been senior VP of Shows. Prior to that he held roles at The Jim Henson
Company and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The appointment, which followed an extensive recruitment process run by
Odgers Sports Practice, is due to be followed shortly by the announcement of a
new commercial director for the club.

Former British Airways marketer Martin George has been hotly tipped to take
the post which was vacated by Andy Anson earlier this month who moved to become
chief executive of men’s tennis governing body the ATP.
