Manchester United are celebrating the landmark achievement of reaching 50 million followers on Facebook – the fastest of any sports organisation to do so.
Launched in July 2010, the Manchester United Facebook page features all the latest Club news and content. The page has been boosted by the Club’s global fanbase with particularly large followings in Brazil, Indonesia and Egypt.
To mark the achievement the Club is embarking on a series of initiatives on its page to thank fans including celebratory videos and images which fans are being encouraged to sign-up to be part of.
Manchester United’s Group Managing Director, Richard Arnold, said: ‘This is a fantastic achievement and one that the Club is extremely proud of. Our millions of passionate fans around the world help to preserve Manchester United’s status as a global leader and innovator in its field.’
Arnold added: ‘With this in mind, we are constantly looking how we can improve and expand our offering to our fans, making sure that as many of our 659 million followers across the globe can get ever closer to the Club they love.’
This latest Facebook milestone now takes Manchester United’s fanbase to 65 million followers across social media platforms that also include Twitter, Google+, Instagram and Chinese channels Sina and Tencent Weibo.
