Manchester United has confirmed it is in talks with a number of different sportswear companies, with a view to securing a new kit deal for the start of the 2015/16 season after the club’s current kit provider, Nike, failed to agree a new deal during the period of exclusivity last year.
However, Nike – whose current 13-year deal is worth a reported £23.5m per season – still has the right to match any rival offer.
According to media reports, the US sportswear brand could be up against adidas, Warrior and Puma, who replaced Nike this week as the partner of League leaders Arsenal in a £30m per year deal.
United – who generated revenue of £363m in 2012/13, more than any other club in English football – made a confident start to life with new record signing Juan Mata, with a 2-0 victory over Cardiff.
Robin van Persie marked his first appearance for 11 games with a goal in the opening minutes, with Ashley Young sealing the points.
