Barclays Premier League champions Manchester United have released its new home shirt for 2013/14, available from today, with the return of the black collar made famous by Eric Cantona in the 1990s.
The announcement of the new Nike kit follows the release of the US brand’s first ever England kit, home and away, as well as its first strip for United’s rivals, Manchester City.
The new season’s kit features a tailored, button-down collar with three buttons at the front and one at the back – “a modern twist that’s also intrinsically Mancunian,” according to the club.
The kit marks the last Manchester United shirt to sport the Aon logo, with a record deal with General Motors’ brand, Chevrolet, set to kick in from 2014/15.
The new home shorts are white with a thin black stripe on the hem at the back, while the socks are the customary black and feature a white stripe between two red stripes – a design that replicates the popular United bar scarves – halfway up the leg, reportedly making it easier for players to pick out team-mates on the pitch.
The existing kit deal with Nike began in 2002 and was reportedly worth around £38 million last season.
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC also revealed their new Warrior kit for the 2013/14 season on Wednesday.
