Manchester City has appointed former marketing agency executive David Pullan as the Premier League club’s new brand and marketing officer with a brief to grow the team’s global fan base.

Pullan, who was president of Isobar global client management at Aegis Media, will work with the club’s marketing director Matt Lowery on developing Manchester City’s brand proposition in the wake of its recent takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group – a move that made City the world’s wealthiest club.

Pullan will be one of the club’s new ‘executive leadership team’ along with recently hired chief financial and administration officer Graham Wallace and former Arsenal player Brian Marwood who has been appointed football administration officer.

The club, acquired by ADUG last September, is looking to broaden its global appeal both on and off the pitch as it looks to challenge the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.

City is also reportedly negotiating a new shirt sponsorship deal with United Arab Emirates carrier Etihad Airlines after tour operator Thomas Cook confirmed earlier this year that it was not to extend its current deal beyond this season.
