Manchester United has announced the appointment of Omar Berrada as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Berrada currently serves as Chief Football Operations Officer for City Football Group where he oversees 11 clubs across five continents including United’s local rivals Manchester City.

The Abu-Dhabi multi-club ownership group also includes New York City, Melbourne City and Girona FC on its roster.

Prior to his involvement with City Football Group, Berrada held senior roles at Spanish giant Barcelona FC.

A statement from Manchester United, said, “It is our stated ambition to re-establish Manchester United as a title-winning club. We are pleased that Omar will be joining us to help achieve that goal, so that, once again, United fans can see, in the words of Sir Matt Busby, the red flag flying high at the summit of English, European and world football.”

With Berrada’s start date unconfirmed, Patrick Stewart will continue his role as interim Chief Executive Officer.
