English Premier League champions Manchester United have reported pre-tax profits of £48.2m in its latest set of financial results for the year ending 30th June, 2009.

The figure includes the world record £80m fee they pocketed for the sale of star forward Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid. Without the sale of Ronaldo, United would have been reporting a loss of £31.8m.

The set of financials also include the £41.9m paid out in interest on a loan of £509.5m. Group turnover rose to £278.5m from £256.2m the previous year.

While the profit figures are impressive, the club’s overall debt still stands at £699m and United have confirmed their intention to raise £500m through a bond issue in an attempt to restructure the deficit.
