Sue Mappin, the former national women’s team manager of the LTA, has been
appointed as the new executive director of The Tennis Foundation, handed the
task of delivering a new unified strategy for community tennis in the UK.

Mappin will head up The Tennis Foundation whose role is to support and
promote community tennis whilst also bringing together all the various bodies
and tennis charities into a single foundation.

As a first step towards this unification, the Cliff Richard Tennis
Foundation, which has already introduced over 300,000 primary school children to
tennis since 1992, has agreed to transfer its existing programmes to the new TF.

The TF will operate primarily through the agency of the central and county
teams at the Lawn Tennis Association.

The TF has an extensive remit, including introducing tennis to all ages and
abilities, creating a new strategy for schools and parks, maintaining and
promoting the Indoor Tennis Initiative, promoting tennis at colleges and
universities, as well as supporting disability tennis, and working to attract
greater public and private investment into British tennis.

Mappin will report directly into Jonathan Lane, chairman of The Tennis
Foundation.
