MasterCard has become the sixth and final worldwide partner of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, with All Blacks star Dan Carter signed as an ambassador of the brand, who also made an appearance by the River Thames to help launch the deal (above).

The US firm, which also sponsored the 2011 tournament, becomes the preferred card and official payment system of the competition, set to take place in England and Wales from 18th to 31st October next year.

MasterCard, also a major sponsor of the UEFA Champions League joins Land Rover, Heineken, Emirates, DHL and Société Générale as a worldwide partner.

Carter said: ‘Kicking from the middle of the River Thames was special but the ultimate priceless experience will be pulling on an All Blacks jersey at Rugby World Cup 2015.’

‘I’m really looking forward to working with MasterCard to give priceless experiences to fans for Rugby World Cup.’

Ann Cairns, President of International Markets of MasterCard Worldwide, added: ‘We are delighted to be extending our partnership with Rugby World Cup, which takes place right here in England in 2015. Rugby World Cup is a truly priceless event for rugby fans around the world and we are looking forward to developing ways that we can bring this partnership to life for our cardholders and partners in 2015.’

While Emirates is the only worldwide partner to have signed up for both the 2015 event and the 2019 World Cup in Japan, the remaining partners have a contractual right to a first conversation for the next edition of the competition.
