Match Attax, the official Premier League trading card game enjoyed by 1.2  million kids each season, has announced the signing of Tottenham Hotspur and Wales International footballer, Gareth Bale as an ambassador for the 2011-12 season.

Bale was chosen following a poll of over 250 children, which revealed he was the Barclay’s Premier League star most of them look up to and achieved the highest ranking as the most skillful player, in addition to being the player they most aspire to be like.

As part of his role as Match Attax’s 2011-12 ambassador, Bale will star in the company’s advertising campaign for the new season of cards, which launched last week.

David Smyth, sports brand manager at Topps Match Attax, commented: ‘It is important that our ambassador is someone that our target 8-11 age group of children aspire to be like, and out of all the young Barclay’s Premier League stars, Gareth Bale came top by a long way. Clearly, his commitment to the game, as well as his footballing ability, really resonates with our young audience, so we are delighted he’s supporting us this season’.

Bale added: ‘Match Attax is a great way for boys and girls to get involved in football, particularly in developing the tactical side of the game.  Having played it myself, it really makes you think about the game and which players you field to win a match. I am really excited about being this season’s ambassador and look forward to meeting some Match Attax fans in the coming months’.
