Match Day Media, a grassroots sport agency, has launched its ‘Dave Dow’ campaign to raise awareness of prostate cancer with grassroots players.
The campaign supports the charity Prostate Cancer UK and brings to life the statistic that one man dies every 45 minutes from prostate cancer.
It focuses on the fictional character Dave Dow – a married 44-year-old father of two, who plays veterans football every Sunday morning. Dave, like many men in the UK, does not know he has prostate cancer.
The campaign was developed after a series of meetings with Prostate Cancer UK and Matthew Cook, managing director of Match Day Media.
“The 45 minute statistic is a shocking one and knowing that it is the biggest cancer killer of men in the UK, we had to do something,” said Cook, who is also a Sport Industry NextGen Leader.
“I know this would be something that would resonate with our grassroots audience. Once we had buy-in, the decision to put our time and money into this was easy. We’re here as an agency to help the right people connect with the right messages and this, and our one million registered grassroots participants, certainly fits the bill.
“Prostate Cancer UK continue do some fantastic work and have used sport as a vehicle to break down barriers. Their ‘Man of Men’ logo can be seen up and down touchlines across the country. We’re just glad to be doing our bit.
“We feel this campaign brings to life the Prostate Cancer UK ‘1 man every 45 minutes’ slogan in a very real way.”
