Sports nutrition brand, Maximuscle, has announced a new sponsorship deal with Wales and Scarlets winger, George North.

The Hemel Hempstead-based company, which is part of the GlaxoSmithKline owned Maxinutrition group, will provide North with individually-tailored nutritional support to complement his career as a professional rugby player both on and off season for the next three years, with North becoming the official Welsh face of the brand.

North joins Maximuscle’s already comprehensive rugby portfolio, including the WRU, England Rugby, Chris Robshaw and Courtney Lawes, as well as other ambassadors including Amir Khan, Greg Rutherford and Stuart Broad.

Discussing the new partnership with Maximuscle the Welsh winger said: ‘It is a massive year for all those involved in home nation’s rugby. Saturday sees the close of what has been an incredible RBS 6 Nations. Right now all my attention is focussed on beating England.’

‘International rugby is seriously demanding; your body takes a lot of knocks. My nutrition plan will be essential to enabling me to recover well after tough matches and go on to achieve my goals. Maximuscle have been great support to Welsh rugby and in my eyes they are the leaders in the field.  I am very excited to be joining the Maximuscle team.’

Senior sponsorship manager for Maximuscle, Mark Morgan, added: ‘George North is a player that the whole rugby world is watching. It has been a pleasure working with him through our partnership with the WRU and we are delighted to have started working with him on an individual basis. North is not only set for big things in 2013, he is on route to an outstanding career.’

‘This Saturday is really exciting for Maximuscle with two of our leading sponsored teams and ambassadors, in George and Chris Robshaw, going head to head for the 6Nations title. May the best team win!’

Maximuscle, who also recently launched its biggest ever consumer campaign The Protein Project, works closely with over 1,000 elite athletes and professional sports teams across the UK.
