M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment has announced a senior hire to its 45-strong London team with the appointment of Haran Ramachandran as new digital director.

Ramachandran joins from Splendid Communications, where he was the social media lead for the last four years on the Smirnoff account, working across multiple markets including the US and Western Europe.

He was also responsible for the social media strategy and blogger outreach campaigns for clients including Spotify, Jose Cuervo, Peperami and Guinness.

In his new role he will oversee the agency’s existing digital work on clients such as Coca-Cola, Reebok, Castrol, TaylorMade adidas Golf and Orange/everything everywhere, as well as evolving the company’s social media output, digital content and technological innovation.

Steve Martin, CEO of M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment said: ‘What Haran brings to the agency that is so often lacking in other digital offerings is a combination of strong technical knowledge, a great strategic brain and real creative flair.  These talents will help us continue to innovate and deliver outstanding digital and social media work for all our clients.’

Haran Ramachandran added: ‘The chance to work with the brands and talent on the M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment books, and lead the growth of their already strong digital output, is an amazing opportunity.  Coming into a landmark year for sport and entertainment globally, the potential within the agency to make a mark in digital is second to none and I’m excited to be a part of it.’

Ramachandran has also held Customer Business Analyst and Geographical Business Analyst roles at Intel Corporation and was Senior Account Executive at Text 100 Ltd.

M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment currently has three offices globally in London, New York and Sydney with more openings planned across the M&C Saatchi network in 2012.

In September last year, boxing champion Amir Khan also appointed M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment as his personal public relations agency.
