Official Open Championship hospitality sales are already up 20% on 2010’s event with a further increase expected from Rory McIlroy’s win at the US Open last weekend.

The Northern Ireland star broke numerous records on his way to a maiden major title and showed none of the nerves that ended his chances of victory at the Masters.? ?

The Open, which takes place between 14th and 17th July, is being held at Royal St George’s in Kent for the first time since 2003, a period which has seen an unprecedented rise in the success of UK golf.

Six of the top 15 players in the world are from Great Britain & Northern Ireland with the top two slots being held by England’s Luke Donald and Lee Westwood.

McIlroy’s recent success also saw him jump from eighth to fourth in the world rankings – to form an all-European top four for the first time since 1992.? ?

Brett Tonkyn, director of sales for The Official Open Championship hospitality, said: The hour and a half journey time from St Pancras to Sandwich by rail has made The Open Championship, which takes place at Royal St George’s on 13th-17th July, easily accessible for businesses and individuals travelling from London’.

‘The high speed rail link, the golf course, the fantastic fine dining packages we offer and the high probability of a UK Open Champion are all helping to drive sales’. ? ?

Tonkyn also revealed that The Official Open Championship hospitality is now completely sold out on the Friday, but there is still limited availability on the other three days.
