Mcqueen Joins Football Foundation

Hayley McQueen has been announced as the latest ambassador for the Football Foundation, a charity that develops better grassroots sport facilities with money from the Premier League, The FA and Sport England.

Hayley has anchored on Sky Sports News HQ for the past five years and was the launch presenter for Sportswomen on Sky Sports, a weekly show dedicated to women in sport.

Speaking about her appointment to the ambassador role, Hayley McQueen said: ”I’m delighted to become an Ambassador for the Football Foundation.  It does such an important job in helping schools and clubs to provide safe and comfortable places for more people to play sport.

“I know how playing football and other sports can help people, especially youngsters, build their self-esteem, stay healthy and learn valuable life skills, like team-work and good communication.

“I also know from my experience at Middlesbrough FC and Manchester United the fantastic work that professional football clubs’ Foundations and Trusts do for local communities.  I love the way the Football Foundation looks to encourage that great work at the sites it develops where appropriate. I now can’t wait till I next get out and see some Foundation projects!”

“She is such a popular figure and a brilliant communicator.  Having someone with her profile and her passion for the game is invaluable for a charity like us.

“Hayley is used to reporting on major football signings herself but as far as we’re concerned we have recruited a real star.”

Hayley’s appointment follows last week’s announcement of Huddersfield Town FC manager, Chris Powell, as a fellow Football Foundation ambassador.

Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 13,000 grants worth more than £530m towards improving grassroots sport.
