Sport Industry Socials is an exciting new series of informal networking opportunities happening throughout 2022. Each event will focus on trending topics and is ideal for anyone who wants to expand their knowledge and network at the same time.
The second Sport Industry Socials event of the year, ‘The Legacy of Award-Winning Campaigns’, will take place on Thursday 8th September at the Everyman Cinema in Broadgate.
We will look back at some of the most memorable UK campaigns over the last decade, examining the lasting legacy that they’ve left within sport, how they’ve influenced wider society, and any lessons that can be learned.
From the taboo-tackling ‘This Girl Can’ to the ever-present ‘Rainbow Laces’, we will hear the first-hand stories from those that were closest to each campaign’s inception in a TED-talk style format, all in the comfort of a chic cinema setting.
Representing the iconic Rainbow Laces campaign is the Director of Programmes at Stonewall, Liz Ward.
The distinctive colourful laces have become a symbol of LGBTQ+ support within sport and the campaign continues to provide coaches, clubs and athletes with information and conversation to help create sporting environments where everyone is treated equally.
Annually, the Premier League shows its support to Stonewall’s initiative by operating for two weeks with bespoke Rainbow Laces pitch flags, ball plinths, handshake boards and substitutes boards, captains’ armbands, and of course, the iconic rainbow laces.
Liz (she/her) has spent her career working in the charity sector fighting for racial justice, equality and creating a world where everyone is free to be themselves.
Liz commented, “I’m so excited to be part of the Sports Industry Social event – it’s so important to celebrate the diversity in our sport community. Rainbow Laces has spent the last decade making sure that sport is everyone’s game, and it’s my pleasure to bring those insights to our sport community.”
At present, attendance to Sport Industry Socials events is only open to Sport Industry Members.
