Mercedes-Benz has introduced a high-tech golf cart, three years after it asked fans to submit ideas for a ‘golf cart of the future’.

The Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car, the product of a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz’s designers, Daimler’s Think & Act Tank Business Innovation and the Denmark-based Garia.

The cart has a large, curved windscreen, a carbon-fibre diffuser, a carbon-fibre roof and a 10.1 inch tablet that displays the speed and power consumption.

The tablet will let users switch between twin driving modes, sport and eco, as well as accessing heaters, air conditioning, wipers and headlights. The cart also comes with WiFi integration for its speakers and a fridge at the back.

It finds its design from a competition ran in 2013 and the consensus was the need for a golf cart that provided a comfortable drive with the mod cons of a luxury car, according to designers.

Gorden Wagener, head of design at Daimler AG said: “We have reinvented the world of the golf cart with our Mercedes-Benz Golf Car.

“Mercedes-Benz stands for modern luxury, and golf is an authentic part of that theme. Transferring our automotive design idiom to the Golf Car is therefore something quite natural, and in doing so we have created a product that is both sensual and pure.”
