Benchmark Talent, the talent management arm of Benchmark Sport International, has announced that it will represent Olympic legend Michael Johnson, who since retirement has forged high-profile careers as both a celebrated media commentator and a successful businessman.

The agreement with Johnson will include speaking and brand partnerships, as well as representation of and consultancy for Michael Johnson Performance (MJP), the four-time Olympic gold medallist’s world-class provider of athletic training for youth, college and professional athletes.

Hugely successful in the USA, MJP is now operating a UK division based at St George’s Park, home of the England football team.

He joins Paralympic legend Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Rugby World Cup winners Will Greenwood and Richard Hill, and former NBA star, psychologist and activist John Amaechi on Benchmark Talent’s books.

Johnson will be available for appearances, speaking and commercial partnerships, with a short-term focus on his commercial work in Glasgow during the Commonwealth Games, where he will once again play a key role in the BBC’s commentary team.

‘I am delighted to be working with Benchmark Talent as Michael Johnson Performance expands further within the UK,’ said Johnson.

‘I truly believe the success we have had in the USA can be echoed and developed further in this always exciting sports market, and I look forward to welcoming a wide range of organisations to our facility at St George’s Park as the MJP brand becomes a key part of the UK sporting landscape. On a personal level, I have always loved working in the UK and expanding the ways in which I do this through the new prospects we are already discussing – from sharing my own experiences and the lessons I have learned in my career to new opportunities with brands and media – is incredibly exciting.’

Benchmark Talent’s Lisa Norman added: ‘Michael is an inspirational figure not just for his accomplishments on the track but for all his achievements off it. His drive and ambition is matched by his vision, and his success with MJP is reflective of his will to win, to innovate and to push boundaries. Like so many of his teammates and colleagues, we are excited to be working with Michael because we know he will push us to perform more and more impressively on a daily basis – as he has throughout his career.’

Johnson will also continue working with IMG and Macesport across a range of activities.
