Middlesbrough FC has unveiled a new 360 virtual reality app, giving fans a chance to go behind-the-scenes at the Riverside.
The app, designed with Teesside-based emerging technology specialists, Spearhead Interactive, gives fans an insight into a Riverside matchday, following the players’ perspective from stepping off the bus to making the walk on to the pitch.
Having left the team coach, fans will virtually experience the players’ entrance and the new media mixed zone before entering the tunnel and heading for the home dressing room.
Once inside the dressing room, users can take a look inside and view individual player profiles and enjoy interactive elements to learn more about the first team squad. They will then head back out to the tunnel to join the rest of the team to make the walk on to the pitch just prior to kick-off.
Fans can also buy branded cardboard VR headsets for use with a smartphone. The VR headsets are priced at £10.50 providing fans. A pared-down 2D 360 experience can also be enjoyed via the free ‘Boro 360’ App, available on both Android and Apple devices for those without a VR headset.
Bob Tait, head of digital and marketing development at MFC said: “We’re delighted to be taking our first steps into this emerging technology and continuing to develop ways that will bring fans closer to the club. The club and Spearhead have focused on creating a quality experience that will really bring the players’ matchday experience to the fans.
“We are sure that the unique behind-the-scenes content will be of equal interest to both our local Teesside faithful and those fans further afield.”
