Sport England has announced an investment of over £80m from National Lottery and government funding into 53 locations across England.

The 53 locations were chosen through a competitive process and represent diverse communities, from rural to urban. Each location will receive between £500,000 and £1.5m over five years.

This investment will support projects such as new sports facilities, activity programmes, coach training, and local sports club support.

Sport England expects over one million people to benefit from this initiative.

This place-based investment approach is central to Sport England’s ten-year Uniting the Movement strategy. It involves close collaboration with local partners to design and deliver interventions tailored to community needs.

The strategy aims to transform lives through increased participation in sport and physical activity.

Tim Hollingsworth, CEO of Sport England, said, “We are delighted to be working with these 53 places to help them level up access to sport and physical activity.

We know that where you live has a big impact on your opportunities to be active, and we are committed to tackling these inequalities. This investment will help to create more opportunities for people to get active, regardless of their background or postcode.”

World Boxing has been granted provisional recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the sport’s international governing federation.

The decision marks a significant step towards boxing’s potential inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, as the sport is not currently part of the programme.

The IOC has overseen boxing at the past two Olympic Games after suspending the International Boxing Association (IBA) in 2019 due to concerns over governance, finance, refereeing, and ethical standards.

The IBA was formally stripped of its status in June 2023 following a failure to implement reforms.

World Boxing, established in April 2023, now has 78 member federations, including Great Britain. It has implemented governance and integrity measures, including independent oversight for Paris 2024 and adherence to the World Anti-Doping Code.
