Lalit Modi, the suspended Indian Premier League chairman, is set to sue England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke for libel.
Modi is currently under investigation by the Indian Cricket Board over corruption and fraud allegations.
However, Modi has now confirmed that he will sue Clarke after what he deemed to be ‘defamatory allegations’ made in an e-mail sent by the ECB chairman.
Modi’s statement read: ‘In his e-mail Mr Clarke alleged that Mr Modi was planning to destroy world cricket by setting up a rebel league in contravention of ICC regulations.’
‘Mr Modi utterly refutes Giles Clarke’s claims and has made this clear in detailed submissions made to the BCCI on 31st May 2010,’ the statement continued.
Modi has reiterated his desire to stay in his post as IPL chairman and has constantly denied any wrongdoing.
