After being dropped from the F1 circuit, Canadian officials have failed to reinstate Montreal’s Grand Prix to next year’s schedule.
With Montreal officially out of the race, there are now no North American F1 races in 2009, as Indianapolis was already dropped in 2007.
The final contract proposal by F1 reportedly called for the Canadian government to find a promoter that could guarantee backing of about £96.3m over the next five years.
Allegedly claiming that these were ‘unreasonable demands’, Montreal officials revealed that the expenses of the race were going to exceed what citizens were able to pay .
While F1 is trying to open up financial options by adding new cities to the F1 circuit, such as Abu Dhabi, dropping North American cities has also reportedly angered some teams, as it cuts off a major market for their car-manufacturer owners and sponsors.
