Motorcycling’s MotoGP Championship is to introduce its first ever night race
next year after it was revealed that the Qatar event in March will take place
under floodlights.

The Qatar MotoGP will take place on the evening of Sunday 9th March at the
Losail circuit with the change in the start time meaning a more primetime slot
for European television audiences.

A night race at the Losail has been on the agenda since MotoGP Safety
Commission members Valentino Rossi, Loris Capirossi and Kenny Roberts Jr rode
the track on street bikes at last year’s Grand Prix.

F1 bosses have also been in discussion regarding switching one of the Grand
Prixs to a night race given the huge boost it gives to European TV ratings.
