The MotoGP grid could be set to increase substantially from next season, with the governing body FIM announcing that 11 teams, comprising of 16 riders, have been invited to take part in the next stage of selection to compete in the sport.
The last four seasons grid sizes have been made up of around 17 bikes, but new regulations have led to plenty of interest, particularly from Moto2.
Now the remaining hopefuls must lodge a security deposit with the International Road Racing Teams Association by the Friday of the next grand prix weekend in Barcelona on 3rd June.
At the Catalan Grand Prix, series-rights holders Dorna and IRTA will decide which teams will be offered a participation deal.
The existing ten teams have been reassured, ahead of a potential influx of new riders, after the governing body guaranteed places for next season.
