Motorpoint has agreed a major new sponsorship deal with Warwickshire County Cricket Club that will see the car supermarket group become the official car partner to Edgbaston cricket ground for the next three years.
As part of the deal, Motorpoint has taken the naming rights to the West Stand at Edgbaston, built during the £32 million redevelopment of the ground in 2011.
Ahead of the test match between England and India, the stand will now be known as The Motorpoint Stand.
The rights agreements, which runs until 2017, will also include player appearances, tickets for major match days including NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London One Day Internationals plus website and email advertising.
Motorpoint will also be joining forces with the community team at Edgbaston to create a dedicated Schools Programme that will enable the bulk of its tickets to be given away to primary and secondary school children throughout Birmingham.
John Hood, general manager of Motorpoint Birmingham, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with Warwickshire County Cricket and look forward to working with the team at the world-famous Edgbaston Stadium to further raise our profile in Birmingham as well as across the West Midlands. Our new association with the Edgbaston Stadium as Official Car Partner is a neat and mutually positive fit, and we look forward to developing the association over the next few years.”
Gareth Roberts, commercial director at Warwickshire CCC, added: “Motorpoint is the UK’s leading car supermarket, selling a car every four minutes nationwide, and we’re thrilled to secure this new partnership and rename the West Stand after such an established brand.
“With Edgbaston hosting the 3rd Investec Ashes Test Match, NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day and England v New Zealand in the Royal London ODI this summer, not only will more than 35,000 spectators use The Motorpoint Stand, but it will be seen by millions of fans around the world.”
