Tennis star Andy Murray has renewed his ties with Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment, settling speculation over his off-court future after reportedly becoming a high-profile target for a number of other management agencies.
Fuller’s agency has represented Murray, who won the Sony Open Masters title in Miami last Sunday, since 2007 but the new world number two had been out of contract since the turn of the year.
The Scot becomes the first client of XIX Globosport, a new joint venture between Fuller and former Indian doubles player Mahesh Bhupathi’s Globosport, and – according to media reports – intend to focus on generating commercial opportunities for Murray across Asia in India, the Middle East and China.
Murray said in a statement: ‘I believe a mix of Simon’s experience and Mahesh’s understanding of the sport will create the perfect team for my off-court interests and will allow me to continue to dedicate myself and focus on my goals on the court.’
Fuller, whose agency also represents David Beckham and 2008 Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton added: ‘Our business is built on strategic partnerships with key individuals in different parts of the world and I’m delighted to be working with Mahesh as we look to expand into the Indian sub-continent and other developing markets.’
Murray will now team up with Ugo Colombini, an Italian player-turned-agent who has previously worked with Juan Martin del Potro.
