Nationwide Building Society has become the new stand-alone sponsor of England Men’s football matches on ITV, signing a new agreement to cover all of the team’s friendlies and FIFA World Cup qualifiers until the Qatar 2022 tournament.
The agreement – brokered by media agency Wavemaker – encompasses broadcast, online, and social media and includes break bumpers in all live matches and highlights shows. It will begin with England’s first FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier against San Marino at Wembley on Thursday 25th March. All of the international side’s qualification matches will be broadcast live on the free-to-air channel.
“Live sport is at the heart of the big event television that ITV excels at and is proud to bring to viewers, so I’m really pleased to welcome Nationwide as our new England football sponsor,” said Kelly Williams, Managing Director, ITV Commercial.
“The interest and passion that live football, and the England team in particular, inspires is more important now than ever in helping fans feel united.”
Paul Hibbs, Director of Advertising, Nationwide, said: “We’re delighted to be in partnership with ITV on their England football coverage, it will allow us to reach fans at all levels at an incredibly exciting time for football and share a message we are passionate about, building mutual respect through the beautiful game.”
Paul Hutchison, CEO, Wavemaker, added: “Wavemaker is proud to partner with Nationwide and ITV to sponsor their England football coverage over the next 18 months. Our positive provocation centred around Nationwide’s commitment to building a society with mutual respect and speaking to a key family audience at scale as they enjoy the beautiful game together – and this is the perfect opportunity to do so. I’d like to thank our Wavemaker Content team, who worked tirelessly with Nationwide and ITV to create this partnership.”
Nationwide says it will use its sponsorship as part of the promotion for its partnership with the FA Respect programme, which promotes mutual respect among players, parents, coaches and children in a bid to ensure grassroots football can take place in a safe and positive environment.
