The National Basketball Association and FIBA Europe have announced a new multi-year partnership to increase the awareness of basketball events in the region, to include EuroBasket Men and Women in 2011 and 2013.
As part of a shared commitment to the development of basketball in Europe, the NBA and FIBA Europe will also work together to foster high-level game development through referee and coaching clinics.
In addition, both the NBA and FIBA Europe will use locally targeted online content to promote basketball on the continent.
Sophie Goldschmidt Senior Vice-President, NBA Europe said: ‘This partnership builds on our close ties with FIBA Europe. By sharing experience and knowledge we will be combining our efforts to help further build the sport and promote it to an even wider audience.’
‘Increasing awareness for EuroBasket and developing training programs for coaches and referees are activities at the core of the FIBA Europe mission statement,’ added FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin.
As a first step, the NBA has signed an agreement with the Lithuanian Basketball Federation to assist with the promotion of EuroBasket 2011.
The 37th edition of the Men’s event will take place in Lithuania, 31st August – 18th September and will feature NBA legends and mascots to create excitement among fans, in addition to promotion on NBA media.
