The National Basketball Association (NBA) has announced that Benjamin Morel has been promoted to senior vice president, NBA Europe.
Morel, who is based in London, will report to Heidi Ueberroth, president of NBA International. Morel has been with the NBA for 15 years, previously serving as interim vice president NBA Europe.
The NBA also announced that Dan Markham, vice president media distribution for EMEA, will expand his current role to include responsibility for the league’s business development efforts in the Middle East, Turkey, and Russia.
‘Ben’s NBA experience and depth of knowledge make him an excellent fit to lead our efforts across Europe,’ said Ueberroth.
‘Both Ben and Dan are extraordinarily talented and have built a great team that under their direction will continue to grow the popularity of the NBA and participation in basketball throughout the region.’
Morel added: ‘We are at an extremely exciting place with our sport and the NBA brand. From hosting the NBA’s first European regular-season games last year to the raft of events and activities planned for 2012, I look forward to using this momentum as we continue to identify new and innovative ways of meeting the demands of our ever increasing fanbase.’
