IBM and the All England Club (AELTC) have revealed changes to the website and apps for The Championships, Wimbledon 2015.

Digital agency IBM Interactive Experience has consulted the AELTC on the redesign of The Championships website and the advancement of the mobile apps experience, shortlisted twice for the BT Sport Industry Awards in 2015.

The website has been developed to be responsive and adaptive to all platforms and provide fans with more information on The Championships as real-time live scores are integrated with live and on-demand video, infographics and exclusive insights.

The Championships apps, available for Apple iPhone, iPad and Android devices, are personalised, provide instant access to scores, player information, match analysis and video and, new for 2015, have an offline mode.

The digital technologies make use of data analytics through IBM InfoSphere Streams to identify match facts in near real-time and Watson Engagement Advisor to provide related insights and historical context.

The use of IBM Blemix Cloud has enabled the development of a personalised player website that will provide individual athletes with information about their match schedules, reports and historical insights about other players and real-time updates about the tournament.

Powered by IBM social media analytics and research from the firm’s CxLabs, the Wimbledon Social Command Centre identifies the most influential voices around Wimbledon and tennis, identifies the most-discussed topics of the day and targets fans’ social communications to increase engagement with The Championships.

Cybersecurity has also been developed by IBM in order to protect the digital technology. During the course of The Championships, IBM will detect and block thousands of suspicious events, providing AELTC a single, unified view of all security events and will apply real time analytics to identify and address potential attacks.

Commenting on the developments, Mick Desmond, commercial and media director, AELTC, said: “With help from IBM, we are providing a world class digital experience with the best real time content to fans of The Championships.

“This allows them to get closer to all the action across all of Wimbledon’s 19 courts, no matter where they are, or what device they’re using.”

Sam Seddon, IBM client and programme executive, added: “Serving up uninterrupted access to real-time Wimbledon match records and trends allows us to showcase the benefits of delivering insights at speed.

“For Wimbledon, this capability will allow them to enrich the fan experience by providing a comprehensive and compelling digital platform featuring instant access to video, scores, articles, interviews and breaking tournament news.”
