Britain is to get a new cycling event called The Tour Series, launched by Sweet Spot, the company that revived The Tour of Britain.

The Tour Series will be comprised of multiple city-centre professional cycling races and will take place during summer 2009.

Rather than focusing on individuals, The Tour Series is calling for teams, with 10 squads of five riders, to take part. Britain’s top professional domestic teams will form the majority of the participants, with additional local and international special guests at each round.

SweetSpot plans on building upon existing relationships established with venues through their organisation of The Tour of Britain, and also developing new partnerships with many of Cycling England’s Cycling Towns and Cities across the country.

SweetSpot is also on the lookout for a title sponsor for The Tour Series that can exploit the recently-boosted profile of cycling in Britain thanks to the success of the Beijing Olympics.
