After months of speculation regarding the sale of Newcastle United, the football club’s owner Mike Ashley has announced that his team is no longer looking for a buyer.

Despite the club claiming to have ‘considerable interest’ and two serious bidders according to Seymour Pierce, the investment bank appointed to broker the deal, Newscastle failed to find a buyer after being up for sale for the past three months.

Ashley, a billionaire sportsware tycoon, took the club over last year for £134.4m and has since invested another £100m in salvaging the club’s debt and improve its playing ability.

He put the team up for sale allegedly after massive fan uproar was caused due to the exit of former boss Kevin Keegan.

The team’s withdrawal from the market comes after much media speculation regarding possible buyers, which included rumours about an interested group in Nigeria and in South Africa.
