Newport, host city of the 2010 Ryder Cup, has announced plans to stage a Fanzone in the city’s John Frost Square for the duration of the competition.

Inspiration for the idea came from Wimbledon’s ‘Murray Mount’ that has proved to be successful again at the tennis tournament with thousands of fans gathering to watch matches on the large screen.

The Ryder Cup takes place on the 1st – 3rd October at the Celtic Manor Resort and with tickets for all three days of competition completely sold out, the Ryder Cup Fanzone in the city centre will give supporters a chance to savour all the excitement as Europe and the USA go head to head.

The Fanzone will include live music, food stalls and mini-golf and have a capacity of 2,000 people.

It will also be free to access for people wanting to see if Colin Montgomerie and his European team can recapture the trophy they lost at Valhalla two years ago.
