NHL Productions has teamed up with Box to Box Films to produce a new Amazon Prime Video documentary series.
Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid will be one of the 12 players who will feature in the series, which will showcase their lives both on and off the ice.
The docuseries, which does not yet have a title, will air exclusively on the Prime Video subscription streaming service in more than 240 territories globally, as the league bids to bolster its international presence.
Box to Box Co-Founders James Gay-Rees and Paul Martin have produced the series, alongside NHL Productions’ Steve Mayer, Ross Bernard and Daniel Amigone.
The UK-based company also produces the immensely popular Netflix series Drive to Survive, which has helped significantly boost the global popularity of Formula One since its launch in 2019.
In recent years, the production company has also delivered golf’s Full Swing series, as well as tennis’ Break Point.
“We want to get more people into the game, more fans,” Connor McDavid said. “It seems like it’s worked in other sports, and I hope it works for us.”
Paul Martin added, “The sport is as beautiful, skilful and graceful, as it is brutal, pressurised and powerful; and we aim to balance the energetic and fast-paced action leading up to the Stanley Cup Final, with the quiet and raw drama taking place off the ice.
“We’re always looking to how we can increase the audience and how we can humanise our players and how we can tell our story. And we felt that this was the perfect opportunity to take what we’ve been doing to a whole other level.”

A trio of Swedish stars will also feature in the series. These include William Nylander, Filip Forsberg, and Gabriel Landeskog – of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Nashville Predators, and Colorado Avalanche respectively – as well as Boston Bruins David Pastrnak and Jeremy Swagman, and the Vegas Golden Knights’ Jack Eichel.
