The Rugby Football Union has appointed Nic Fletcher (pictured centre) to the role of Head of Marketing at the governing body. Nic joins the Union from O2 where he spent five years as Head of Sponsorship.
During his time at O2, Nic managed award winning campaigns such as 2007 RWC Never Surrender, the world’s first public screenings of Rugby in 3D, as well as the Sport Industry Award winning Get Up For England campaign.
The campaign, to coincide with the 2011 Rugby World Cup, won the Best TV Sport Commercial, sponsored by Eurosport, and Best Integrated Sport Marketing Campaign.

An experienced sports marketer, Nic spent four years with the Australian Rugby Union following the 2003 Rugby World Cup and previously worked for the agency Momentum, before returning to England in 2007.
He will oversee the Union’s internal marketing function to deliver strategic and innovative support to the game across a range of projects including brand development, rugby and event promotion, fan clubs and creative design.
Following the announcement, Fletcher commented: ‘I am incredibly excited to be joining the RFU at such an exciting time for the game, both on and off the field. It is a great opportunity to help market such a strong and dynamic brand, especially with a home world cup looming. I have loved working with the organisation while at O2, and relish this new challenge.’
RFU’s chief commercial officer Sophie Goldschmidt added: ‘We are delighted that Nic has joined the RFU. During this exciting time for rugby in England Nic’s experience will be invaluable as we look to further develop our brand, provide new opportunities to our current fans and players and attract more new fans to the game.’
