Nissan has signed a long-term deal as the first major commercial partner of Team RadioShack – the new cycling team of American rider Lance Armstrong.
The seven-time Tour de France winner will see his team sponsored by Nissan at this year’s Tour de France and other major Pro Cycling events around the globe.
Nissan will ‘actively support’ Team RadioShack and says it view the partnership as a way to connect with the 40 million cycling fans that attended live events around the world in 2009.
‘There’s a powerful alignment between cycling enthusiasts’ interests and Nissan’s in terms of performance, durability and sustainability – whether their favourite ride has two wheels or four,’ said Christian Meunier, vice president of Nissan Marketing.
Armstrong is one of 25 professional riders on his team’s books. Nissan will become the official vehicle of the team.
