Outdoor sports brand The North Face has revealed plans to use this week’s Black Friday sales rush to support the next generation of young female adventurers in the UK.
For every item sold on the world’s biggest annual shopping day, the brand plans to donate £1 directly to The Outward Bound charity, which helps young people realise their potential through education and adventure.
The collaboration will help take young people based in London and Manchester on summer adventures. It builds on The North Face’s Move Mountains campaign – which gave more than 1,600 young women the chance to experience the outdoors.
Commenting on the activity, Amanda Calder-McLaren, communications director, The North Face EMEA, said: “From the Lake District and the Scottish Highlands, to the beaches of Dorset and the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Dales; the UK has some of the most incredible outdoor playgrounds in the workd. However, for many young people, accessing these kinds of awe-inspiring places can seem to be hard, expensive, and way out of their comfort zone.
“As the world’s biggest outdoor brand, we feel it is our duty to help change this, and it’s by working with amazing people like The Outward Bound Trust that we can really make a difference.”
Nick Barrett, Outward Bound Trust CEO, added: “Since the beginning of our partnership, it’s been very clear that we share the same, clear mission as The North Face: to give as many young people opportunities to experience the outdoors and in turn, the incredible physical and mental benefits that it reaps. To have a brand as respected as The North Face use a huge commercial moment to help boost our shared mission is invaluable, and will change young lives.”
The North Face has also announced plans to continue its outdoor gear donation programme, which provides customers with a financial incentive to donate old gear to organisations working to broaden access to outdoor pursuits.
