Nottingham Forest has launched an appeal against the club’s four-point deduction imposed by the Premier League over breaches of its Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The club was initially charged in January after admitting it had surpassed the allowed PSR limit of £61m by £34.5m over a three-year period ending in 2022/23.
Last week, an independent commission appointed by the English top-flight confirmed that the Reds had fallen foul of the regulations, advising the league to impose the four-point sanction on the East Midlands club.
An official club statement read, ‘Nottingham Forest can confirm that it has today lodged an appeal against the four point sanction imposed by the Commission in relation to the club’s breach of the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR).
‘The club will not be making any further statement at this time.’
Forest’s penalty was less severe than that of Everton, who received an initial ten-point deduction that was later reduced to six, earlier this season. This was in part due to the team’s co-operation with the independent commission throughout the investigation.
In its initial response to the sanctions on 18th March, the club said it was ‘extremely disappointed’ with the commission’s verdict.
Forest are now placed in the relegation zone following the point deduction, as the team currently sit 18th in the Premier League table on 21 points.
