The Olympic Delivery Authority has opened up the tender process for a
construction firm to develop Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, the
venue for the London 2012 sailing events.

The construction company chosen from the tender process will make
improvements to the existing facility at the Academy including building a 150m
slipway, a new race-boat parking area and new race-boat moorings sheltered by a
wave protection structure.

With construction expected to start early next year, the facility will be the
first venue to be ready for the London 2012 Games.

The tender announcement coincided with a trip by Olympics Minister Tessa
Jowell to the Academy to review existing facilities.
