Team GB sprinter Christine Ohuruogu has signed a new deal with Virgin Media, joining fellow World Champions Usain Bolt and Mo Farah as brand ambassadors.

The London-born athlete, who became a World Champion in the 400 metres for the second time in her career at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow in August, will make regular appearance for the pay-TV operator and feature in forthcoming marketing campaigns.

Ohuruogu joins Bolt and Farah as ambassadors of the brand, who both became double World Champions earlier this month in their respective distances. All three runners are on the books of athlete representation company PACE Sports Management.

Ohuruogu said: ‘The crowd at London 2012 was really special and it was such an incredible feeling to race in front of so many passionate people. I hope the atmosphere and support in Glasgow in 2014 will be the same all over again. Working with Virgin Media, we want to get people from all over the Home Nations excited about another amazing sporting spectacular that’s right on our doorstep.’

Financial details were not announced, but the deal is reported to be worth a six-figure sum.

Virgin Media is an official partner and the presenting partner of athletics at Glasgow 2014, which takes place next summer.

Jeff Dodds, Virgin Media’s chief marketing officer, added: ‘Christine has consistently shown that the rest just can’t keep up with her incredible speed so what better ambassador for Virgin Media and our superfast broadband? She’s part of a stellar ‘Team Virgin Media’ and will be a great representative for us as we look ahead to Glasgow 2014.’

Meanwhile, Virgin Media is also currently running an advertising campaign starring Stoke City striker Peter Crouch to promote its partnership with BT Sport. Virgin Media is offering the majority of its pay-TV customers BT Sport channels for free.
