Bayern Munich have confirmed that former club goalkeeper Oliver Kahn will succeed Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as CEO when the latter steps down at the end of 2021.
Kahn, who played almost 800 times for the Bavarian club, will officially join the board on 1st January 2020, before taking over from Rummenigge on 1st January 2022, at the end of the current CEO’s contract.
Rummenigge has been in the role since 2002, but announced earlier this year that he would be stepping down at the end of his contract on 31st December 2021.
Kahn said: “It’s a great honour for me to be first entrusted with the office of board member and later with the office of CEO and chairman of the Executive Board. I would like to thank the Supervisory Board, headed by Uli Hoeneß, for this trust.”
Bayern President Uli Hoeneß added: “With an eye on the future, we are convinced that Oliver Kahn is the perfect solution for the position of CEO of FC Bayern München. Oliver was an important player in the history of our club.”
